“Heads of State” turns transatlantic relations into an action comedy
John Cena and Idris Elba play an American president and a British prime minister, respectively. They must overcome their differences to survive double assassination attempts. "Heads of State," released July 2 on Prime Video, blends comedy and action without taking itself too seriously, and has been praised by the press in both countries.
Impossible peace, improbable scenario. In Heads of State, released July 2 on Prime Video, the United States has just elected a Hollywood star, Will Derringer (John Cena), as president. The United Kingdom, meanwhile, has been led for six years by the phlegmatic Sam Clarke (Idris Elba). The two men can't stand each other: Clarke thinks Derringer is a clown, while the latter couldn't stomach the Briton sharing fish and chips with his opponent during the election campaign.
So far, nothing unimaginable. However, summarizes The Guardian , “after a disastrous joint press conference that ruins the announcement of a NATO-backed energy initiative, the two leaders are forced onto Air Force One [the White House presidential plane] in an attempt to limit the public relations damage. But the situation becomes even more complicated when their plane is shot down.” The whole world believes them dead, international tensions reach new heights.
